How do I download the Private Island app?


Private Island is available for download on the Apple Store for iOS 12.0 or later.




Is Private Island available in my country?


Private Island is available for download in 37 countries including North America, Europe and India.




Is Private Island available for Android?


The latest Private Island release is currently only available for iOS. A simple iteration is available for buying tickets on Android and the full experience will be coming to the Play Market soon.




Can I access Private Island on my computer?


Private island is mobile-first. This means that we are only available for download on iOS and Android devices.




Do I have to pay a membership fee?


There is no membership fee. Private Island is always free to use, explore, find and post events, share content and communicate. There is a 10% commission on ticket sales and credit card payments.




How do I set up an account?


You can set up an account through the Private Island app by entering your details and verifying your phone number and email address.




How do I set up a profile?


Once your account has been verified and you have set a profile picture, your profile will be generated for you. From here, you can add a bio, link your social media accounts and view your past and upcoming events.




My authorisation code isn’t working


Please wait one minute, verify that your number is correct and that you have cellular reception. You may also request a new authorisation code. If it still doesn’t work after this, send an email to support@privateisland.io including your phone number and a brief explaination of the issue.




Why isn’t my username being accepted?


If your username isn’t being accepted, it is either already in use or violates our community guidelines. Please try again by entering a new username.




Do I have to upload a profile picture?


Yes all users are required to have either a profile picture or an avatar to give hoststhe opportunity to make approvals.




Can I add a bio?


Once your profile has been set up, you have the option to add a bio.




How do I link my social media to my profile?


Go to profile settings and input your social media links into the corresponding social sections.




Is it safe to enter my credit card details into the app?


Yes Private Island is powered by Stripe.




How do I make my profile private?


You can make your profile private by going to ‘settings’, ‘privacy’ then ‘account confidentiality’. Select ‘closed account’ and switch it on.




Do other users see my profile?


You have the option to create a closed profile where your gallery and events list are hidden.




Can I change my phone number?


If you need to change your mobile phone number please send us an email at support@privateisland.io including your current phone number and the number which you would like to change it to.




Can I change my name?


Yes, you can change your name, as well as username under the tab ‘edit profile’.




How do I recover my account?


If it is necessary to recover your account, please send us an email at support@privateisland.io with details of your phone number and the issue at hand.




What does it mean if someone is ‘following’ me?


If someone is following you this means that they will be able to see which events you will be attending as well as which events you have attended in the past. Your avatar will also show up on their events map and you will be able to communicate with each other over private messenger.




How do I follow other users?


You can follow other users by selecting the ‘follow’ option under their profile.




How do I unfollow other users?


You can unfollow other users by selecting ‘unfollow’ under their profile, if you are already following them.




How do I block other users?


You can block other users by selecting ‘block’ at the top right hand corner of the user who you wish to block’s profile.




Can another user see if I have blocked them?


A user will not receive a notification if you have blocked them, however you will be removed from their followers list.




How do I private message another user?


You can send a message to a user who you either follow or to a user who has a public account by selecting the ‘message’ option under their profile.




Who can see which events I am going to?


If you have a closed profile, only those who follow you can view which events you are going to. If you have a public profile, any user can see which events you are attending.

How does Private Island work?


For hosts: AI generates a unique event illustration and flyer to share on and off the app so the host can curate a guest list, collect funds, issue tickets using QR codes and generate a guest group chat. For users: Private Island maps private social events, giving users the opportunity to see, request and join (when approved by the host) private parties, trips and other gatherings around the world.

Hosting Events

How do I become a private Island host?


All users are hosts and can create an event by clicking the “+” icon in the center of the menu bar. If you are interested in becoming a verified host please email support@privateisland.io




What sort of events can I host on Private Island?


At Private Island we embrace diversity. Whether you are looking to host a birthday party for your close friends in Portugal or a high-end product launch in LA, Private Island will help you curate the perfect guestlist.




Can I host private events?


Yes! Private Island is intended to be used as a platform to connect with your friends. All events are private, meaning they require host approval to join. To create a hidden event that only invited members can see, simply make your event ‘secret’ during the creation process.




How large can my event be? / What is the maximum number of guests?


The maximum number of guests at an event currently depends upon the Coronavirus regulations set by your national authority. Please make sure to adhere to the regulations before posting an event. You can find the latest updates by checking your government website.




How small can my event be? / What is the minimum number of guests?


At Private Island no event is too big or too small. Whether you are hosting a small get together with family and friends or a 21st birthday party, we are excited to host your event. (Please ensure that the size of your event adheres to the Coronavirus regulations last published by your national government).




Can I host commercial events?


Private Island can be used to host commercial events that are interested in benefiting from an exclusive guestlist. It may be necessary to write to our team to verify the feasibility of your event at support@privateisland.io.




Can I promote my brand through an event?


Yes, because Private Island has a clear guestlist of RSVP’d users it is perfect for coordinating sponsored events.




Who can see my event?


You can either choose to make your event ‘private’ or ‘secret’. A ‘private’ event can be seen on the feed and joined only by host followers or an invitation. A ‘secret’ event can be joined only by invitation from the host and is displayed only for participants and users who have been invited.




Will my event details be made publically available?

Can anyone come to my event?


If a user is interested in coming to your event they must request to join the event. As the host, you then have the option to accept or decline their request.




Can I make a ‘friends only’ event?


You can make events secret which means that it can only be joined by users who have been personally invited by the host.




Can I decline people from attending my event?


Yes, you can decline people from attending your event.




How do I invite people to my event?


In the process of creating your event, you have the option to invite your friends to attend. After an event is published you are given the ability to share it on social media to boost its popularity. You can also click the three dots at the top right corner of details page to share or copy the link.




Can I re-invite someone to my event after they decline?


If someone declines to attend your event but wishes to join they will have to open the event up from your profile and make a request to join.




Can I invite celebrities to my event?


You can invite anyone to your event on or off the app. Event invitations and requests from those who follow you are prioritized.




How can I modify the guestlist?


When you open your event guestlist you will be able to invite others, start conversations, and refund guests, removing them from the event.




Can I uninvite people from my event?


Yes, though there is a small fee as a host for removing guests. The guest will also be refunded their original ticket price.




Can I set an age requirement for guests? (maximum/ minimum)


Yes, you can set the rules of your event in the details section.




Can people under the age of 21 (US)/ 18 (RoW) come to an event where alcohol is provided/ sold?


Please refer to your local regulations. We strongly encourage our hosts to verify guest ID in person.




How do I create an event?


Select the ‘+’ in the center for the event builder and fill in your event details. Once you are happy with the details and have completed all the necessary steps, your event will be ready to go live on the app.




How do I make someone an ‘administrator’?


One you have created the event, select the ‘details’ page, then ‘manage’, then ‘team’. Here you can add administrators. Administrators can assist with ticket scanning, messaging and approving guests. Note: this functionality is only available for some accounts in its Beta testing.




What is the difference between a ‘private’ and a ‘secret’ event?


A ‘private’ event can be seen on the feed and joined only by host followers or an invitation. A ‘secret’ event can be joined only by invitation from the host and is displayed only for participants and users who have been invited.




What is the difference between ‘standard’ and ‘VIP’ or Custom tickets?


The difference between ‘standard’ and ‘VIP’ tickets is decided by the host. VIP and custom tickets are usually more expensive than standard tickets and come with extra benefits at the event. The benefits should be described by the the host in the details section.




Can I include other benefits in the ticket price?


Yes it is possible to include other benefits in the ticket price. This can be detailed in the title of the ticket or in the details section when creating the event.




What is the benefit of rewarding users for promoting the tickets?


Rewarding users for promoting your event will result in your event reaching a larger audience, increasing the likelihood of generating ticket sales.




How much should I reward users for promoting my events?


Our system automatically rewards users who promote your event with a commission from 5-25% of the ticket price. The higher the commission, the more likely it is that users will promote your event. Setting this commission is up to you.




Can I promote my event directly through the app (not users)?


At private island we believe in the power of real happiness and authenticity, which means that all event promotion on our platform is organic. This is why we don’t leverage paid promotion on events hosted on our app, unless it is based on the voluntary promotion of an event by our users.




How do I promote my event?


You can promote your event by setting commission on ticket sales for users who choose to promote your event to their networks. This will give any user on the platform who joins your event the possibility to promote it to their social network.




Why did my event fail to be published?


If your event has failed to publish, please check that you have a stable internet connection and that you have sufficiently filled in the event details required.




Do I have to provide transportation to/ from the venue?


You are not required to provide any specific type of service. Make sure you are clear and as detailed as possible to your guests about what it is you are offering and exceed their expectations however possible.

Can I set a dress code at my event?


You are not required to set a dress code, though it is fun to do so :)




Can I edit my event features after I have posted it?


Yes it is possible to edit event features after the event has been created by going to ‘detail page’, ‘manage’ and ‘edit event’.




How do I change the name of my event?


You can change the name of your event under the ‘edit event’ section in ‘manage’.




Can I change the date of my event?


We strongly encourage hosts to check in with all ticketed guests before changing the date of an event. You can change the date of your event under the ‘edit event’ section in ‘manage’. Guests are entitled to refund their ticket after you change the date.




Can I change the price of my tickets after publishing my event?


You can edit the price of your tickets on the details page by selecting ‘manage’, ‘tickets’ and ‘send tickets’. Here you can edit the price of tickets before sending them to users who you wish to invite to your event.




Can I publish more tickets after posting my event?


Yes, you can open the tickets page and add a new ticket type, increase the quantity available or stop selling tickets.




Can I change the accommodation provided at my event after posting?


We understand that as a host you may need to change the accommodation offered. The accommodation style should be comparable to the initial offer and communicated well in advance. Be aware that your guests are entitled to a refund after any changes have been made to the core offer should they request it.




Can I change the location of my event after posting?

Can I cancel my event?


Hosts can cancel their event but will incur a 10% cancellation fee surcharge.

As a host, open event management from the details page and select “cancel event” in the top menu. If your event has a cost associated with it, you will be responsible for adding a payment method to cancel.




What do I do if not enough tickets are sold for my event?


As a host you are responsible to have your event as you have described it in the event builder once you post it. Make sure that you are prepared to have the event and follow the sharing steps to help it reach your network effectively.




How do I add promoters?


You can add promoters to your event on the details page by selecting ‘manage’ and then ‘team’. Note: this functionality is only available for some accounts in its Beta testing.

Can I dismiss someone from being a promoter?


You can dismiss a promoter by selecting their profile in the ‘team’ section of ‘manage’ and choosing ‘dismiss promoter’. Note: this functionality is only available for some accounts in its Beta testing.




What is an appropriate commission to give to a promoter?


We recommend setting commission between 5-25%. The higher commission will give your promoters higher motivation to give you exposure.




Am I responsible for the behaviour of guests at my event?


As host you are responsible for setting the rules of your event. We strive for the highest standards of respect. Guests are required to follow the rules of the host, as long as the rules are reasonable, safe and legal. If a guest does not comply with the host’s rules, the host may remove the guest from the event. If there is a safety concern please write support@privateisland.io




Am I liable for any damages to the venue made by guests at my event?


As a host you may be responsible for the damages to property or venue so we encourage setting clear expectations and rules to protect the community.




Am I responsible to refund the ticket of a guest who doesn’t show up?


Hosts are not responsible for refunding no-shows but can do so at their discretion.




Am I responsible for issues incurred with transportation to and from the venue?


If you are offering transportation services as a host you are responsible for ensuring that your guests get where they have paid to go in the travel method or a comparable travel method. If you make a significant change to the initial plan, the guest may be eligible for a refund.




How do I get in contact with guests after the event?


All guests remain in a group message. It is encouraged to follow other users so you are able to keep up with their own events and send private messages.




Is there a way to communicate privately with guests through the app?


You can send private messages to users on the app once you follow them.




How do I report the behaviour of a guest?


If you feel there is a safety or community concern you can report the behavior of a user by emailing support@privateisland.io .




Can I block a guest profile?


Yes, you can block a guest. The guest will no longer be able to see your event details, group message, or your profile. The guest may be eligible for a refund depending on the circumstance.





Attending Events

How do I find events I want to attend?


You can explore islands on the map, use search to find your friends or search for verified profiles offering great events.




Are there any events near me?


Private Island is structured to explore the social landscape in your area and beyond. Simply open the app to see the map and set filters to “Show all events” to see all upcoming events.




Can I filter my search?


Yes, from the map page clicking on the left filter button.




Can I hide events I’m not interested in?


Yes, you can click the three dots on the details page to hide events.




How do I accept an invitation to an event?


Once you are invited to an event, you will receive a notification of the invitation. Here you can either choose to accept or decline it.

What would I do if I accidentally declined an invitation?


If you accidentally decline an invitation, you should request to join the event by purchasing a ticket. The host will see your request and accept / decline.




How do I share the event with my friends?


You can share an event with your friends over social media, email and text message. This option can be found at the bottom of each event.




Why did my request get declined?


Who is able to attend an event is completely up to the discretion of the host. The host may therefore decide to decline your request for whatever reason.




Why is my QR code not working?


Make sure that you have enabled QR code scanning on your mobile device. If the problem persists, please contact support@privateisland.io.




How do I download my tickets?


Once you have received your ticket, you may download it to your mobile device.




Do I have to print my ticket?


No, it is not necessary to print your ticket.




Can I buy tickets for other people?


Each guest must be approved individually by the host. This means that it is not possible to purchase tickets for other people.




How do I earn money from promoting events?


When you promote an event, you earn commission fro every ticket sold as a result of your promotion. This commission is set by the host.




Can I resell my ticket?


No, due to the exclusive nature of our platform there is a strict non transfer rule once tickets are issued. This way, the host knows who they are approving to join their events.




The host has edited the event features and I can no longer attend, what do I do?


You may request to refund your ticket if you so wish.





Events & Covid-19

Are events allowed under COVID regulations?


Please refer to your national and local Coronavirus regulations.




Is it legal to attend events during the pandemic?


Regulations differ between countries. To ensure that you are following your national rules, please refer to your national and local Coronavirus regulations.




Do I need to be fully vaccinated to attend events?


Whether you need to be fully vaccinated to attend events depends upon the regulations of your national authority.





Safety & Security

Is private island legitimate?


The Private Island platform is a secure and safe way to organize an event with your friends although you should make sure you know the host or they are verified by Private Island before purchasing a ticket.




What happens if I attend an event and it is not what I expected?


Hosts have the discretion to refund part or all of your payments. We strongly advise you only to join events of hosts who you know or those verified by the Private Island team and showing a verification badge on their profile. If there is any issue that is illegal, abuse of the platform or any bad actors who you believe we should step in to resolve, please contact our support at support@privateisland.io





Managing your Wallet

Which payment methods are valid on the app?


You can use Visa, American Express, Apple Pay and Mastercard as well as pay with your Private Island wallet balance.




How do I add a valid payment method?


When checking out or submitting a request you will be prompted to input your payment card details or apple pay.




How do I change my payment method?


You will be prompted at each checkout to choose the card that you would like to pay with or to input a new card.




Why did my payment get declined?


If your payment gets declined, check that you have entered your details correctly. Otherwise, you may wish to contact your bank.




How do I buy tickets for events?


When viewing an event which you would like to attend, you can request to join the event at the bottom of the event page. You can then choose which tickets you want to purchase and pay at the checkout. This money is then held by us until your request is approved. Kf your request is not approved within 24 hours, or if the host denies you, you will receive a full refund.




If an event is cancelled will I receive a full refund?


Users will be refunded the full cost of their tickets in the instance that an event is cancelled.




Why can’t I buy a ticket for an event?


You might not be able to purchase tickets for an event due to the event having been sold out, payment failure or your request being declined by the host. If you think this is a technical issue, please email us at support@privateisland.io.




Can I upload credit to the app?


No, Private Island does not support this.




How do I view my balance?


You can view your balance when looking at your profile page as well as in your wallet.




Can other users view my balance?


No, other users cannot view your balance.




How do I send money?


Open your aller, select ‘send’, select your payment method of choice and input the amount which you wish to send.




How do I receive money?


You should receive push notifications when money enters your wallet. You can check this balance by clicking ‘wallet.




Can I send / receive money from anyone?


Yes.




What does it mean when a payment is ‘pending’?


When a payment is pending you will not be able to withdraw it to your bank account until it has moved to available balance.




Why can’t I send money?


If you experience difficulties sending money, you may wish to contact your bank.




Can I withdraw funds from my account back into my bank account?


Yes.




I was charged incorrectly.


The best way to sort out a payment issue is to contact the host and use the wallet to correct the mistake. If the issue persists please contact support@privateisland.io.




Do you charge fees for payments/ wire transfers?


There is a 10% fee for all payments made using credit cards. All transactions using the wallet are free of fees.
